Dear Neighbors,
Welcome to the latest edition of the Mount Laurel
First E-News letter.
If you have news that you think should be included in my next E-News letter,
please send me the information at
JimKeenan@MountLaurelFirst.com
Remember that this E-News letter is dedicated to Mount Laurel news.
Be Careful Driving: The
first day of school for Grades 1–8 is Tuesday, September 8th.
Kindergartners start on Wednesday, September 9th – So please drive
cautiously and watch for excited children (and parents) who may be darting
across the streets. Please remember to check the Mount Laurel Board of
Education website for information and news regarding our fantastic schools. You
can access their site from my “Links” page listed at the top of my website
pages.
Swine Flu Updates: Links to up to date information has been posted on
the Township website. Please check there for updates regarding the Swine
Flu - www.MountLaurel.com
Mount Laurel Fall Festival: Is set for Saturday, September 26th
– 11am to 4pm – Laurel Acres Park – (Rain date for the festival is set for the
27th) Please mark the date on your calendar and plan to have a great
day. This year our theme is “Spirit of America”. We have received more
registrations from Arts and Craft Vendors than we have seen in the last 4
years. So plan to walk around and visit.
5K Run/Walk: Is held every year prior to the start of the Fall Festival.
The Race is held “Rain or Shine” on Saturday, September 26th. The
Run/Walk starts at 8:30am – you can register the day of the event starting at
7:30am at the Pavilion in Laurel Acres Park. To pre-register, please visit the
townships website at:
www.MountLaurel.com and download the registration form and mail in your
check to the address provided. We will also be hosting a 6 and under – 200 yard
FUN RUN at 8:15am (no charge). This year we will be donating portions of the
proceeds from the registrations to the Mount Laurel EMS Training Program which
helps support the Volunteers. So please help the people who help you. The fee
is $20.00 per runner. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need additional
information.
Township Council: Has been working hard with our new acting Manager
Jennifer Blumenthal to help prepare our budget for next year and the years
beyond. This year was a very challenging year for myself being on Council. We
are faced with many outside forces who continue to cut the return of our tax
dollars while constantly placing unnecessary challenges on to our local
government. I do not wish to try to put all of my concerns here into this
newsletter, but let me assure you that I will not stop asking the tough
questions that I know you would want me to ask. I have taken the oath of office
to serve the residents of this township and I do not forget that. Please try to
make it a point to attend a Council meeting or two, this year and next. I enjoy
seeing residents at the meeting because it shows me that you care about our
great town. Our meeting dates are posted online along with our adopted summary
minutes and our agendas at
www.MountLaurel.com – see what we are doing by dropping in and saying hi.
Thank you for your support and I invite your comments and questions.
