Dear Neighbors,
I am attempting to set up a way to announce the
current events of Mount Laurel. In these newsletters, I will post items that
have recently been in the local news or are merely public record. I am not
plagiarizing anyone, for I am not here to take credit for anyone else's words
but simply attempting to inform you of what has been in the news and what I
think may interest you. I attach hyperlinks in this page so that you may
go to various sites where I have found things that may interest you.
The 2007 Municipal Budget:
On June 4, 2007, Township Council had voted 3 to 1 (with one
absentee) to appropriate the money to publish the proposed Budget
in the official newspaper of the Township, the Central Record, in
the issue of June 28, 2007 and a public hearing on the budget to
be held in the meeting room of the Mount Laurel Municipal Center,
100 Mount Laurel Road, on July 9, 2007 at 7pm local time. If
passed at final adoption, residents owning homes assessed at the township
average would pay about $53 more than last year.
New Recreation Facility Update:
The Township
Council is pressing ahead with its plan to build
a new general purpose turf field at the old Marne Highway baseball site.
This field is considered a priority because of the need for a new football
facility along with the need to cross use the site for the rapidly growing sports
of Lacrosse and Field Hockey in Mount Laurel. The township is waiting for
the DEP to reply with what type of remediation would need to be performed at
this site due to the fact that there were several small hot spots found in the
soil a number of years ago. Most of the hot spots have been cleaned up by
the township but according to the township, the DEP holds the keys to the first
phase of construction.
School Board Moves To
Committee Structure of Governance:
Following reorganization for the 2007-2008 school year, the board of education
has opted to move to a committee structure of governance as opposed to the
"board as a whole" concept that has been employed for the past five years. Go to
http://www.mtlaurelschools.org/ to
read more about this change and more.
Police Report Vehicles
Burglarized:
During the weekend of June 2nd and 3rd - eleven cars were burglarized in the
Tricia Meadows development off Church Road, police said. All 11 vehicles had
been left unlocked. I have posted this article to remind everyone to please remember to lock your cars at night.
My father always said that a lock will keep an honest man honest.
